About Revel Puck Circus

Revel Puck Circus exists to redefine circus's place in public perception and to revolutionise our sector. We tour world-class, original work in our own venues to audiences and communities who are often underserved. For us, temporary structures and site-specific work are a political act: they democratise cultural experiences and remove gatekeepers and access barriers to the arts. The company is led by founder and artistic director Luke Hallgarten, and was launched in 2019 through Waltham Forest, London Borough of Culture. In 2026 we're projected to sell more than 90,000 tickets across our seasons, from the big top tour to Edinburgh, private events and our winter festivals.

Our 2026 big top tour ran 211 shows and sold 50,757 tickets, and Theatre Weekly named us Best Circus at the 2026 Edinburgh Fringe. Alongside the tour we run winter festivals across London, take our shows to venues at home and abroad, and hire out our big tops through Studio Puck.

In 2027 we take a new big top show on a 220-performance UK tour, with local skills development built into every stand, and in the winter we'll produce and deliver three festive circus venues in London. Revel Puck Circus is a not-for-profit social enterprise and a member of the Association of Circus Proprietors, and we're currently preparing our application to Arts Council England's 2028 to 2033 National Portfolio round.

The role

We're looking for a self-motivated Company Administrator to be the administrative backbone of the company. Before a tent is built, a show created and an audience welcomed, people need contracts, travel and schedules. Invoices need paying, stock needs counting and certificates need to be in date.

This new post sits at the centre of all of it: the person the touring company calls, the person our suppliers trust, the person who knows what is due and when. It's a job for somebody who loves detail: lists, trackers, deadlines and spreadsheets that balance. You'll also talk to a very wide range of people, from a performer in a van to a council officer to an accountant.

Job description

Money out and money in

  • Invoices in: check supplier and freelancer invoices against what was agreed, flag what's wrong, and give our finance team what they need for fortnightly payment runs
  • Supplier inbox: hold the accounts inbox so anyone chasing hears back from a human, and get receipts and card statements in, coded and filed
  • Invoices out: raise and send invoices for venue fees, co-productions, tent hires, corporate bookings and grant drawdowns, and chase what's owed with charm and persistence
  • Finance firm contact: be the main point of contact for our finance firm's day-to-day needs, answering their requests and actioning them internally

Payroll, contracts and people admin

  • Contracts: issue contracts and engagement letters from our templates, chase the signatures, and file them before people start work
  • Records: keep the master list of who is engaged, on what terms and at what rate, plus pension, right to work and DBS paperwork
  • Visas, insurance and individual paperwork: work with the producing team so everyone we engage has the visa, insurance and paperwork they need, and we know about any access requirements

Records, kit and certification

You're the custodian of the records, not the person doing the counting or the inspecting. Your job is to make sure it gets done, by the right person, on time, and that the paperwork comes back to you.

  • Stock takes: hold the schedule and templates, send them to the bar manager, chase them back, and check the figures reconcile
  • Inventory and certification: keep the register of tent, rigging and site kit, give our riggers and technicians the inventory to log LOLER inspections and PAT testing against, chase the certificates in, and track every expiry date
  • Vehicles, insurance and licences: hold MOT, tax, insurance, operator and servicing records, and flag every renewal well in advance

Keeping the show on the road

  • Welcome information: get the touring company what they need before every run: where they're going, when, where they're sleeping and who to call
  • Travel: book travel and accommodation for the company and visiting artists
  • Social impact data: gather audience, participation and community figures from the people collecting them on the ground, ready for Arts Council and other funder reports

Administrative operations

  • Information hub: hold and organise our current and past documents
  • Passwords and accounts: standardise and hold passwords and accounts across our operations, from scaffolding companies to finance platforms
  • Handover documentation: we work with a lot of freelancers, so when a project wraps you'll make sure handover documents are ready for the next one and everyone has what they need

General

  • Be an advocate for Revel Puck Circus and its work, and play an active part in the life of the company
  • Follow company policies at all times, including equal opportunities, safeguarding and health and safety
  • Undertake other duties that fit the role, as reasonably required by the Executive Producer

Person specification

We're looking for someone who likes a list and likes crossing things off it, who notices when a total is wrong, and who closes loops without being chased.

Essential

  • Experience in an admin-heavy role
  • Confident with numbers, spreadsheets and trackers
  • Excellent written communication, warm and clear
  • A cheerful chaser, happy to ask a rigger, a bar manager or a director for the thing they owe you, and to ask again
  • Discretion: you'll see what everybody earns and what everything costs
  • Experienced with Google Workspace and spreadsheets
  • A reliable laptop or computer, a smartphone and a stable, fast internet connection

Desirable

  • Experience with Xero or similar accounting software
  • Admin for a touring, events or festival company

If you've run the admin for a small business, a PTA, a local community group or a charity, and have never worked in the arts, you're exactly the sort of person we're hoping to hear from.

Employment terms

  • £15.00 an hour, invoiced monthly
  • Freelance for the first three months, with the possibility of moving to an employed PAYE post on the same rate
  • Around 20 hours a week, flexible to suit you
  • Remote working, with desk space available at our Shoreditch office
  • Free tickets to our shows for you, your friends and family
